Jason Yao

Dr. Jianchu (Jason) Yao is a Professor of Engineering and the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at the College of Engineering and Technology, East Carolina University (ECU), in Greenville, North Carolina. He earned his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Kansas State University in 2005 and subsequently joined ECU as a founding faculty member of the newly established Department of Engineering.

Dr. Yao’s research focuses on innovative applications of biosensors in non-hospital settings and laboratory/project-driven engineering education. He is a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and has been an active IEEE volunteer for many years. He has served in leadership roles across multiple IEEE committees, including the IEEE Educational Activities Board, the IEEE Publications, Services, and Products Board, and the IEEE Eastern North Carolina Section. Additionally, he has established two IEEE student branches.
